Beagles (Happy Hounds)
Beagles are wonderful dogs and make excellent family companions. Their medium size (generally under 15" and usually under 30 pounds), their low maintenance cost and their affectionate, yet independent, temperament make them an ideal pet for many families. Like any breed, though, beagles are better suited for some situations than others.
These fun loving, curious, happy affectionate hounds rank the sixth most popular dog breed. Beagles make wonderful companions. Adult beagles do wonderful with children, even toddlers.
Beagles require lots of exercise, not only because they are energetic but also to maintain healthy. Beagles are generally a healthy breed. A major key to maintaining their health is their diet - including what they eat and how much they eat. Beagles love food, and have a tendency to overeat and become overweight. Your beagle is no exception. Please do not yield to your beagle's adorable begging eyes. It is for their best interest. You should not be able to see your beagles ribs, but if you cannot easily feel them - it's diet time! If you switch out the food, you should do it gradually.
A beagles coat is dense and of a medium length. Beagles do shed, and need to be brushed frequently to keep their coat healthy.
